What Does the Lifeline Program Include?

Lifeline is an initiative by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designed to enhance the affordability of communication services for low-income consumers.
Subscribers enrolled in the Federal Lifeline Program receive assistance on eligible monthly telephone service, broadband service, or bundled voice-broadband packages from a participating lifeline provider like Life Wireless.

Lifeline offers eligible low-income subscribers assistance up $9.25 a month, and up to $34.25 per month for eligible subscribers living on Tribal lands.
Eligible subscribers can receive the Lifeline assistance on either a landline or wireless service, but not on both. The program also extends its support to broadband Internet service and broadband-voice bundles. Please note that FCC regulations prohibit more than one Lifeline service per household.
This assistance is accessible to eligible low-income consumers in every state, commonwealth, territory, and on Tribal lands.
The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) administers the Lifeline program, facilitating consumer applications, explaining eligibility criteria, and ensuring the continuous benefit through an annual recertification process.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Lifeline program, eligible consumers must meet specific criteria, which include having an income at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participating in designated federal assistance programs.
Such designated federal assistance programs include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Supplemental Security Income, the Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit, or specific Tribal Programs. You can apply for lifeline online at lifelinesupport.org, and online at Life Wireless. You can also apply by mail, or through your local phone or internet provider.

Initiating a Lifeline application
To initiate a Lifeline application, individuals typically utilize the National Verifier application system, accessible through either USAC or a Lifeline-participating phone or internet company like Life Wireless.
The National Verifier, established by the FCC and managed by USAC, serves as a centralized system for verifying the eligibility of Lifeline applicants and conducting annual recertification of subscriber eligibility.
Please note that individuals in California (excluding broadband-only consumers), Texas, and Oregon will continue applying for the federal Lifeline benefit using their state's current application process, as is presently done.
